Menolly by Arisashi Menolly by Arisashi
One of my favorite childhood heroines: Menolly.

I have the fondest memories of Anne McCaffery's Dragon Rider's of Pern novels. This was greatly inspired by the fantastic psychedelic covers by Elizabeth Malczynski on the Harper Hall Trilogy. At an early age, Elizabeth's artwork imprinted on me how fire lizards should be depicted forever and ever ad infinitum... between the ages 10 and 16, I'm not sure I drew anything OTHER then elegant, cow-eyed fire lizards.

Beautiful! Count me as another fan of those old covers. And you've adapted the designs beautifully into your own style. What gorgeous little creatures they are! (Menolly looks great, too -- she's just a bit overshadowed by the fire lizards.)

It's hard for a human to compete, really! :)

I just love your depictions of her firelizards, I'm also a fan of the old Harper Hall book covers.  I do like the little additions you've given them, like the neat patterning on their hides and the fade effects on the wings.  It's nice to see them all having a good time together.

Thank you! They are so much fun to draw. Glad you dig the patterning. I like to think of the hide as sort of soft and suede like.

I've always preferred the pocket sized dragon variety myself. As long as they're not poisonous.

No, just a little nippy and some mild second degree burns! :D
